Zisaji is a name derived from the three prominent geographical features of Kiphire District, namely, Zingki (ZI)-the most resourceful river in the district, Saramati (SA)-the highest mountain peak of the state, and Jingkhu (JI)- one of the largest valleys in the state, all located in Kiphire District. The geographical features of paramount importance in the District that add to its integrity in the form of Zisaji thus become the ‘Presidency’ of the region.
Zisaji Presidency College is located in Alikhong Ward, Kiphire, 3 km away from the town. It was founded in 1997 as a private Arts college by the visionary leaders of the Kiphire district. In February 2006, the Government took over the College.
As the only college in the district, it addresses the crucial need for higher education among the disadvantaged sections of the state. In fact, it is the only institute of higher learning in one of the remotest parts of the state, and therefore attracts a good number of students from the adjoining districts of Shamator and Noklak, which have no college as of today.
The College has made steady yet impressive progress since its establishment. Initially, the College started with a handful of students; it now has a total enrolment of 280 regular students. The College offers Major/Honours under a Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) in six departments, namely, Economics, Education, English, History, Political Science, and Sociology (starting from 2026). The College has a permanent affiliation with Nagaland University, and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in December 2019 with Grade B.
The college provides a free, liberal and healthy competitive environment to help the students excel in their higher learning. Over the years, the college has gradually built up academic and infrastructural facilities and a student-friendly environment to make students' college days memorable. The College is enriched by scenic beauty, with the hilly slopes of pine trees, a full-scale view of Saramati Mountain, and Kiphire town.
